Chief Nursing Informatics Officer
Dr. Luann Whittenburg, PhD, RN, APRN, CPHQ, is the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer. Dr. Whittenburg joined Medicomp in 2009 to integrate a nursing terminology standard into MEDCIN. She brings requirement specification experience in health information management and technology, clinical knowledge of healthcare, and health standards experience; national and international.
Her informatics focus is health information management, terminology, information standards, and data interoperability in electronic health records. She holds a PhD in Informatics and Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in health economics. Prior to Medicomp, Dr. Whittenburg was engaged as a federal health information consultant and Director of Operations for State Managed Care Organizations, directing the day-to-day operations of healthcare services including Case Management, Quality, Health Promotion, and Pharmacy Benefit Management. Dr. Whittenburg also has extensive clinical experience working as a Family Nurse Practitioner and an ICU Critical Care Nurse. She has published on nursing informatics, nomenclature, and co-authored several book chapters on the Clinical Care Classification System (CCC) and national nursing terminology.
